The Fate of the Lonz Winery is . . .
Sealed - Nov. 11, 2003
The appearance of the Lonz Winery has suddenly
changed more significantly than at any time in the past 50 years. The view from
the dock is of a shuttered building. Several other buildings on the property are
also shuttered. The word is that this is not just for the winter. It is supposed
to last until the state figures out what to with the property. Interesting. If
none of the island homes need to be shuttered for the winter, why does the
island's most visible symbol, and the first one that anyone sees when arriving,
need to look as if its fate is ... sealed? Wouldn't a little bit of ground floor
shuttering (in a more subdued color) be sufficient to handle the liability risks
with the old building?
