Middle Bass Island Local Maps
How to Get Here: Maps and Directions - The Miller Ferry to Middle Bass leaves from the dock at the northern tip of Catawba Island, which is the end of Ohio Route 53. It's about 70 miles west of Cleveland, Ohio or about 40 miles east of Toledo, Ohio. For more maps and more detailed directions, click either of the links below.
Ferry Links - Overnight visitors usually take the direct Miller Ferry, while day trippers often combine a visit to Put-in-Bay via the Jet Express with a side trip to Middle Bass via the Sonny-S. The two-leg trip via the Jet Express and the Sonny-S, both of which usually run until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights during the summer, also provides a way to get to Middle Bass late in the evening, i.e., after the last Miller Ferry leaves Catawba at 7:15PM on Friday or 6:15PM on Saturday. Only the Miller Ferry takes vehicles. While no reservations are needed for passengers, vehicle reservations should be made well in advance.
Flying Here in a Private Plane
Commercial Plane Service - Griffing Flying Service of Sandusky flies to Middle Bass from Sandusky and Port Clinton. Call (419) 626-5161. For ice fishing in the winter, it's the only way to get here.
Also see the Dairy Air information that we posted in June, 2004.
Deliveries from the Mainland to to Middle Bass - If you wonder why so many islanders drive pickup trucks, it's not just to get their boats in and out of the water. It's also to get things to the island. Be it USPS, UPS, FedEx or your local furniture company, no regular deliveries of any sort are made to homes on the island.
But you can get almost anything delivered to the dock on the island, be it a car, a bed, or even an emergency prescription from a pharmacy. All you need to do is set up an account with Miller Ferry, and you can then have items delivered to the freight station at the Miller Ferry dock in Catawba. Those items will be delivered by Miller Ferry to the dock on the island, and if you are not there to pick them up, the dockmaster will hold them for you. Miller Ferry will bill you for the freight charges. All Contents Copyright © 2000-2005 by Middle Bass on the Web, Inc. All rights reserved.
