Schoolhouse Bay - August, 1997 click for 2003 panorama image of Schoolhouse Bay Schoolhouse Bay on a Stormy Day, October, 1998 Schoolhouse Bay, defined on one side by the northeastern tip of the main island and on the other side by the southern edge of East Point, has always been one of the most popular destinations for boaters and swimmers. With one of the few natural beaches on the island just east of the new airport, it has been a popular place for boaters and residents to swim and picnic. And the bay itself has long been a popular harbor for boats coming up from the mainland, either for a day trip or an overnight stay. On holiday weekends, there are often 40 to 60 boats in the bay, many of them clustered near the beach where the boaters can swim or walk to shore in the relatively shallow waters.
