Good work on the site guys. My family owns most of Ballast Island and all but 2 of the houses on it. For me its the best place in the world and the winter can get depressing. Its nice to see pics of the islands and updated news about the happenings on the lake while the snow is falling so I can get ready for the next season! Thx alot, and keep it up.

When I was a child of four my family and cousins went there one year, worked at the winery (Lonz)? I remember a small school house and a girl about 13 named Amy and she had a friend...I remember the Tin Goose flew us over and we lived in a two story house, it had a screened in porch. This was about 1970-1971? carlos Rodriguez juan.rodriguez12@us.army.mil

To the person who signed the guest book twice prior to me: Sounds like you really don't live there, you may have a cottage there or know some one who does,so tell us why it's okay for you to come and enjoy the island but no one else. Do you think that this great imformitive site with all this wonderful historical information is going to bring more people than the winery did? The way you sound by what you typed made you sound like your not playing with a full deck, and you should be a bit embarrassed by yourself. I know I'm embarrassed for you. I think Middle Bass has way to much class for some one like you. But let's hope that all the drunkards you think this site is going to bring will run you off making room for some folks with a bit more class. You know a person who would type what you did surely is much to much of a low life to claim to live "the whole time" on the island. And having to swear to try to make a point doesn't make you sound very educated. Until you get some education maybe you should keep your uneducated opinions to yourself, it would be doing the rest of us a very big favor. I LOVE THIS SITE, MIKE YOU DO A GREAT JOB!!!

Hey yall! i think this is a pretty good site!!! i enjoyed looking at everything on the calender knowing when i was going to go up!! To that person that told off the gurl who said it would be annoying to live there year round...thats not right! I can understand what theyre saying. i wouldnt like to live there year round and have tourists bothering me at my own home...maybe some of you who do live there year round can understand what im sayinbut those other poeple dont know what theyre talking about! lemme just tell u that i cant wait until the summer to see danny, michael, wes, rach, and DUKE!! hahah! i think mike (whoever that is) did a really good job on this site...but i think you should show pictures of each house and tell who lives there and who the residents are. that would be kindof cool to come online during the winter and look at ur summer house and that would help u stop missing it so much...just by seeing it. bcuz i know that during this school year, i couldnt stop thinking about all my friends up at the lake and going swimming and missing everything!!! :( i got sooooo depressed! well yeh i just wanted to let all of you kno how much fun the island is and to let yah kno ur alwayz welcome here, unless u are going to destroy any part of our land...thanks!

I have lived in Ohio all my life and had never visited the Islands untill my son was in high school and I chaparoned a band camp and that was on Kelly's and 10 years ago. I did visit Middle Bass once now and can tell you I will be going back. What a shame I never new the experience a child. But now I will enjoy them the rest of my life. Thank You again for a beautiful site and to those people who don't want turists there, with the rate the world is growing we will never stop them. So enjoy it while we have it the way it is.

Nice job on the web site. Nice island you have there. We bring the family there several times a year. Much nicer than S Bass and Kelleys. Middle Bass is a genuine get-a-way and we enjoy it. Aunt Irma built a nice new place and I can't wait to see Walleyes (We didn't get there this time). We'll see you there again real soon! The Davie's Norwalk, OH

Hated St Hazzards.. Loud and roudy, over priced and under developed. I doubt this owner will ever full-fill his dreams. Do just rich folks stay on the island? I am a blue collar person, $35.000 a year with my wife bringing in an additionial $40.000.. 2 kids in college and not enough money to even think about buying a crappy cottage. I blame my parents for not being rich enough to spend the summer at the ISLANDS

I came across this site and could have spent hours on it. My family used to spend summers on Middle Bass from 1965, when I was born, until the early 80s visiting my grandparents, who had a cottage there. I have so many fond memories. Although I do have to say it's a shame there have been so many changes to the island, it's nothing like it used to be. But it will always be a place I hold close to my heart.

I remember taking the Pelee Island ferry in the early 1950's. The vessel sailed from Sandusky and docked, later that day in Canada. I recall a stop at Pelee Island. It was a true steamer, with a recriprocating engine and rear screw. As recollected, the vessel was of Canadian registry. Do any pictures, or other information, exist regarding this ship?

I miss being an Ohio resident. These islands were my second home each and every summer. I was browsing one evening and happened upon your website. You have done a wonderful job! Each picture brings back fond memories. As an Arizona resident, this website is as good as the Arizona Highways magazine for the missing buckeyes in my family.

Just stumbled onto this site. Very interesting! Lots of good historical info. I spent lots of time on the island in the 50's & 60's, since my grandmother & uncles lived there. My grandfather, great uncle, & uncle ran Kuemmel Fisheries from the 1920's until about the early 60's. My dad & his brother & sisters were all born on the island. Have cousins who still live on PIB. Your historical info is interesting. I have 2 chairs that came from Rehberg Hall when they tore it down. I also have the Rattlesnake Is triangular postage stamps from 1966/67. But most of all, I have lots of memories of a way of life 50-60 years ago. Jim Kuemmel New Orleans jkuemmel@aga-engineers.com
